Introducing ChooseOurDate: We Built the Date Planning App We Always Wanted
After months of building, testing, and refining, ChooseOurDate is live. Here is the story behind why we built it, what makes it different, and what comes next.
Today, ChooseOurDate is officially live.
I've been sitting with this moment for a while, trying to figure out the right way to write about it. The honest answer is: it feels surreal. Not because launching a product is unusual — it isn't — but because this one started from a genuinely personal place, and watching it become real is something I didn't want to rush past.
So before we get into features and roadmaps and what's coming next, I want to tell you the story of why this exists.
The Problem We Kept Running Into
A few years ago, I noticed a pattern in my own life and in conversations with people I knew: planning a date had become weirdly hard.
Not hard in a logistical sense. There are more restaurants, more experiences, more things to do in any given city than ever before. The problem was the opposite: too many options, no good way to filter them, and no shared system for actually deciding.
You'd open Google. You'd get a listicle from 2019. You'd text your partner asking what they wanted. They'd say "I don't know, what do you want?" You'd default to somewhere you'd been before.
The evening would be fine. It wouldn't be memorable.
And the thing is — you wanted it to be memorable. You had the intention. You just didn't have the tool.
What We Set Out to Build
The original idea was simple: a planning tool that actually understood context.
Not just "what's popular in Houston" — but what's right for this couple, on this occasion, with this vibe. A first date is different from a tenth anniversary. A spontaneous Tuesday night is different from a planned birthday weekend. A couple that loves hiking is different from one that prefers wine bars.
The tool should know the difference. And it should help you get from "I want to do something special" to an actual plan — fast, without friction, and without feeling like you're filling out a form.
That became the AI Concierge. Four tools in one: date ideas tailored to your vibe, venue discovery, conversation starters for when you want to go deeper, and a free-form AI chat for anything that doesn't fit a template.
The Part Most Planning Apps Get Wrong
Here's something I kept coming back to while building this: most planning apps are designed to keep you in the app.
More scrolling. More browsing. More engagement. The metric that matters to them is time spent, not quality of the experience you actually have.
We made a deliberate choice to build against that. The goal of ChooseOurDate is to help you leave it. To get you from "I want to plan something" to "I have a plan" as quickly and confidently as possible — and then get out of your way so you can actually go live it.
That philosophy shows up in how we handle privacy, too. We don't sell your data to advertisers. We don't build behavioral profiles for third-party targeting. The details of your plans — where you're going, who you're with, what you're celebrating — are yours. We collect what we need to provide the service and nothing more.
What's Live Today
Here's what you can do right now:
Plan a date. Build a full date plan with title, activity, venue, location, and scheduled time. Your plans are saved to your account and accessible anytime.
Use the AI Concierge. Get personalized date ideas based on your vibe and location. Discover venues. Generate conversation starters. Ask the AI anything.
Invite your partner. Link your account with your partner's so you can plan together, share ideas, and coordinate without the back-and-forth.
Share your plans. When you're ready, share a privacy-safe preview of your date — no venue details, just the vibe — with friends or on social.
Stay private. Everything is built with a privacy-first approach. No ads. No behavioral tracking. No selling your plans to anyone.
What's Coming Next
We're just getting started. Here's what's on the near-term roadmap:
Collaborative planning. Right now, one person plans and the other receives. We're building toward a genuinely shared planning experience — where both partners can contribute ideas, vote on options, and build something together.
Deeper venue discovery. The AI Concierge is good at ideas. We're making it better at specifics — real venues, real availability, real details that help you commit to a plan.
Memory and history. Your past dates should inform your future ones. We're building a way to look back at what you've done together, what worked, and what you want to do again.
The Founding Partner Program. We're opening a limited cohort of Founding Partners — businesses, venues, and experience providers who want to be part of what we're building from the beginning. If that's you, the application is open.
A Note on Who This Is For
ChooseOurDate is for anyone who wants to be more intentional about the time they spend with the people they love.
That might be a couple who's been together for ten years and wants to break out of the routine. It might be someone planning a first date and wanting to get it right. It might be a group of friends who are tired of the "I don't know, what do you want to do?" loop.
The common thread is intention. The belief that a good experience doesn't just happen — it gets planned. And that the planning itself, when it's done well, is part of the experience.
Thank You
To everyone who tested early versions, gave feedback, pushed back on things that weren't working, and encouraged us to keep going: thank you. This wouldn't exist without you.
To the people who signed up before there was much to sign up for: you took a bet on something that was still becoming itself. We don't take that lightly.
And to anyone reading this for the first time: welcome. We're glad you're here.
